👋 It’s a big day. We’re releasing a wide-ranging interview with Council member Janeese Lewis George about her mayoral campaign. She joined Tom and I to reveal her most extensive thinking yet about how she’d pay for a big child care expansion, plus gave candid thoughts about President Trump and her top opponent in the race, former council member Kenyan McDuffie.
We talked about how economic pressures will affect her campaign promises as a democratic socialist, how she’d handle ICE (vows zero cooperation) and Trump (wants to find common ground where possible), and how to grow downtown.
I wrote about the interview’s major takeaways in Axios D.C. this morning.
